You Can Do the Impossible

"When have you ever read a story of God's great work that made a lot of sense, a story that didn't seem a little over the top, a little impossible? Not often. Radical, extraordinary love just doesn't make sense in a fallen world; that doesn't mean it can't happen. But it is the very nature of God" (said by Katie Davis). We read, study and learn about the stories of Moses parting the Red Sea, Noah building an ark, David and Goliath, and when Jesus fed 5,000+ people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. We read these stories about great love and great power, but we don't believe it can ever happen to us. We need to get rid of that mind set. I want to go back to another thing that Katie Davis said because she puts it in the best way I know, "(We) serve a God who uses Moses, a murderer, to part the Red Sea; a God who let Peter, who would deny Him, walk on water. A God who looks at (us), in all (our) fallen weaknesses and says, 'You can do the impossible.'" It's easy to forget the disciples were chosen among the lowest of the low in their society, but the greatest thing about that is Jesus never saw it like that. He doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Let's open our Bibles to 1 Corinthians 1:26-28,

"Brothers, consider your calling: not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. Instead, God has chosen the world's foolish things to shame the wise, and God has chosen the world's weak things to shame the strong. God has chosen the world's insignificant and despised things - the things viewed as nothing - so He might bring to nothing the things that are viewed as something."

It's so amazing to read and know that we don't have to be perfect, and God knows we aren't! But that's exactly why He is calling us to Him. It's easy to go on with our every day lives and wake up every morning wishing we could just keep sleeping. It's easy and it's comfortable. It's easy and comfortable, but its not bold. Which brings me to another point.. Revival. And we can't just sit around hoping things will happen. We have to make them happen.

Revival can be described as a restoration of life, consciousness, strength, and an awakening in a church or community. Revival is something God has been showing me through many things lately. He's shown me that I need to stop living in the ways of the world, worrying about silly, pointless things. The book of Nehemiah explains in so much detail about the value of revival and how it can and will happen. Anything can happen with God, so why not an awakening in the hearts of everyone? Nehemiah describes the rebuilding of the Jerusalem walls. The physical conditions of the walls is supposed to represent the spiritual condition of the people in Jerusalem. As the walls begin to get rebuilt, the people also start to be "rebuilt".  Revival is coming and it's happening. It's getting easier for me to see God working in my life and the lives of my friends, my family, and even people I don't know. It's going to be amazing to see everyone on fire for God, every one every where. Let's revive. Let's love each other, and go and make disciples. Let's change the world!
